Artist, climber, skier, spiritual warrior, buddhist, traveler, philanthropist... Craig Jenkins (1962-2006) embarked on many adventures while also battling a rare cancerous sarcoma in his last years, called “Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumor.” His spirit has moved on, yet his artwork and his words continue to inspire us. An expression of his personal experiences, Craig’s artwork is imbued with a poet’s sensibility. His love of nature, the southwestern landscape, and the female form unfold in his paintings from the “Mother Earth” series. His straightforward and amiable way of relating to all whom he met is evident in his “Travel” photographs, especially those of children. His final works, the photographic collages of the “Impermanence” series, document his three years of cancer treatment. Visually intricate, these images express a strong spiritual component that lays bare the physical and emotional struggles of a cancer patient while maintaining a delicate and moving beauty. |
